Hugs of Hope: Sending Comfort and Connection to Children of ALS

When a parent, grandparent, or other loved one is diagnosed with ALS, life for their children can change in an instant. These young caregivers are often thrust into roles that carry heavy responsibilities, while their hearts carry even heavier emotions. At Hope Loves Company, our mission has always been to remind these children that they are not alone... that love, compassion, and community surround them, even in the hardest times.
One of the heartfelt ways we fulfill that mission is through our Hugs of Hope packages.
What is a Hugs of Hope package?
A Hugs of Hope package is a warm embrace delivered right to a child’s doorstep in the form of a box of thoughtful items. Each package contains a collection of items designed to bring comfort, smiles, and a sense of connection:
A cuddly HLC stuffed animal to squeeze tight during tough days
A personalized letter of encouragement to remind each child they are seen and valued
Journals, books, or creative activities to help them process and express their feelings
Hope-themed items that spark positivity and remind them of the HLC community standing beside them
For many children, opening a Hugs of Hope package is like receiving a message that says: “You matter. You’re not alone. We’re here for you.”
Why these packages matter
ALS affects the entire family. Children often carry invisible burdens and worry about their loved one’s health, the sadness of anticipated loss, and the challenges of caregiving.
