Hope Loves Company's CA Camp: Next weekend, Friday, Nov. 18 - Sunday, Nov. 20

Nonprofit supports children and young adults who have family members affected by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) with free camp

November 10, 2022 – The media is invited to a free camp for children and young adults who have or had family members battling ALS. It is happening next weekend, Friday, November 18 through Sunday, November 20 at YMCA Camp Campbell: 16275 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA.

Camper check-in will begin at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Activities will last until 9:45 p.m. that day. Camp HLC programming will begin again on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. Sunday’s activities are from 8:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Camp Hope Loves Company (HLC) offers so many fun experiences - including swimming, climbing, a ropes course, archery, hiking, yoga, journaling, group therapy sessions, music, games, and s’mores. Even more important, children attending will all have something in common and can build new friendships and feel less alone in their challenges.

The camp program is free for all 45 children who have or had a parent with ALS, an incurable disease. Their families are invited to attend for free as well.

Hope Loves Company (HLC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit celebrating its 10 year anniversary. HLC is dedicated to supporting children and young adults who have family members living with ALS. It is the only nonprofit with this specific mission. HLC founder Jodi O’Donnell-Ames, HLC president Gary Bachrach, and their team have hosted about 40 Camp HLCs across the nation.

O’Donnell-Ames has three children – now all young adults – who have lost a parent to ALS before turning 12, so she knew from personal experience how ALS affects a family, especially children.

Thank you to our camp sponsors: LiveLikeLou, Phi Delta Theta, Cytokinetics, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America, the ALS Association, the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, the Sunshine Foundation, and the L.L. Foundation for Youth.

I was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) four years ago. For over two years, I relied on prescription medications and therapies, but unfortunately, the symptoms continued to worsen. I experienced increasing muscle weakness, fatigue, and difficulty with daily activities. Last year, out of desperation and hope, I decided to try an herbal treatment program from NaturePath Herbal Clinic. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but within a few months of starting the treatment, I began to notice real changes. My energy improved, muscle coordination felt better, and I felt more capable in my daily life. Incredibly, I also regained some confidence and hope. It’s been a life-changing experience—I feel more like myself again, better than I’ve felt in years.…
